An activity that has been enjoyed for many centuries in Britain, horse racing is also a well-loved activity by us at AGMA and Stablemate. That’s why we decided to sponsor the Carlisle Bell & Cumberland Plate on Wednesday 28 June 2023, which was named ‘Stablemate By AGMA Bell and Plate Day’.
The Carlisle Bell, Cumberland Plate and listed Class 1 Eternal Stakes are one of Cumbria’s favourite and major days, and this year did not disappoint. There was fantastic entertainment, a meet and greet with ROR equine ambassador, Duke of Navan, a pocket orchestra, and a town crier to add to the ambience. We sponsored two races, and watched the day of events unfold:
Start time | Race | Distance |
2.20pm | Mark Nield Wealth Management Restricted Maiden Stakes (For Horses in Bands B, C & D) (GBB Race) | 5f |
2.50pm | The British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes (Class 3) | 5f 182yds |
3.20pm | The Jason Watson 25 Years Carlisle Bell Consolation Race Handicap Stakes (Class 4) | 7f 173yds |
3.50pm | The Stablemate by AGMA Carlisle Bell Handicap Stakes | 7f 173yds |
4.20pm | The Stablemate by AGMA Cumberland Plate Handicap Stakes (Class 4) | 1m 3f 39yds |
4.50pm | The British Stallion Studs EBF Eternal Stakes (Class 1) | 6f 195yds |
5.20pm | Carlisle Supporting Racing Staff Week Fillies’ Handicap | 6f 195yds |
The day also witnessed a new rider record-breaker, Hollie Doyle, who raced with seven-year-old Mostawaa. She now holds the record for winning at every British flat racecourse, as she won one of the track’s most prestigious races and the world’s oldest sporting trophy. Many congratulations to Hollie on her win and new record – you were a pleasure to watch!
‘As always it was a delight to work with Carlisle Racecourse and the Jockey club to once again sponsor the Carlise Bell. For 2023 we thought it would be apt to also sponsor the Cumberland Plate. To witness history in the making was very special to us and definitely a day to remember! As a local company we are thrilled to be a part of such a historic occasion and to watch Hollie’s record accomplishment.’ – Pippa Franklin, Director & Company Secretary
Although it was quite a distance for some to travel, everyone was in high spirits on the day, and it was a great atmosphere from start to finish. We can’t wait until next year’s event!
