Purpose: To ensure consistent and effective cleaning and disinfection of cleanroom floors using sterile mopping methods.

Materials and Equipment

  • Sterile mop head (pre-saturated single-use mop wipes for a bucketless system).
  • Mop handle compatible with sterile heads.
  • Product:
    • Detergent solution for residue removal
    • DE 70% v/v for disinfection
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) according to cleanroom requirements.

Procedure

1. Preparation

  • Don appropriate PPE.
  • Prepare sterile mop head according to manufacturer instructions.

2. Mopping Technique

  • Begin in the cleanest area of the room, working toward the dirtiest areas or designated exit point.
  • Use parallel strokes that overlap slightly; avoid circular motions to prevent re-deposition of contaminants.
  • Pull the mop toward you, back to front for horizontal surfaces (floor), lifting the mop head at the end of each stroke.
  • Maintain consistent direction (left-to-right or right-to-left) throughout the cleaning session.

Solution and Mop Head Management

  • Use appropriate solution based on task:
    • Detergent for general cleaning
    • DE 70% v/v for disinfection
    • Sporicidal agent as scheduled
  • Replace mop head when visibly soiled or after reaching pre-defined usage limit (e.g., every 10-15 sq. ft. or at a set interval) to avoid dragging contamination.

Safety and Compliance

  • Avoid over-saturating surfaces.
  • Follow all cleanroom handling protocols.
  • Ensure proper labelling and storage of cleaning agents.

Critical Rules

  1. Always use distilled, deionised, or sterile water to prevent mineral buildup.
  2. Unidirectional Movement: Use overlapping, unidirectional strokes. This ensures contaminants are picked up and not just spread around.
  3. Slow Movements: Keep movements slow and controlled to avoid making particles airborne.
  4. Ensure the disinfectant remains wet on the surface for the time recommended by the manufacturer.
