Meet Silvia, Quality Control Chemist

Silvia works at our site in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, where we develop, formulate and manufacture all of our speciality chemical products before shipping them worldwide.

We sat down to ask Silvia a few questions about her work in the Quality Control Team at AGMA.

What are your responsibilities?

As a Quality Team member, I am responsible for assuring the good quality of our products.

The team test products in the lab, check the finished product, test raw materials, prepare dyes, complete certificates, follow regulations and similar tasks.

What is your background?

I worked for 4 years as an organic chemistry analyst and 1 year and a half as a microbiology analyst.

Can you summarise your job in 3 words?

I would say rock, paper and scissors!

Rock for the ‘solid’ good quality of our laboratory testing.

Paper for the paperwork to follow it up.

And scissors—for opening many boxes of raw materials and finished product to check the quality of what’s inside.

If you could work in any other part of the business, where would you work?

I would prefer staying in Quality!

What is the best thing about your role?

The best thing about working with AGMA? Easy—the people. Everybody is so kind and supportive.

What challenges do you face and how do you overcome them?

Sometimes I will encounter paperwork/regulations/technical information I am not too familiar with. But I resolve this by researching the information or pestering some of my very well informed colleagues.

Which industry websites do you use to keep up to date?

NCBI for latest discoveries in the scientific world and Cleanroom Technology website and magazine for everything concerning cleanrooms.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside work I enjoy drawing and reading.

Keep an eye on our Meet the Team series for more peeks into life at AGMA.
