Congratulating Andy Proud on 43 years with AGMA!
As one of the longest-serving members of staff, Andy talks us through his AGMA career.
When work was suspended for 6-8 weeks during the winter season of ‘81/82 at Sullom Voe oil terminal due to the harsh weather, I applied to work as a Purchasing Coordinator for AGMA, which at that time I viewed very much as short term.
Never did I think at the age of 22 that my career with AGMA starting in the 80s would still be continuing today, 43 years later. It began in purchasing, then on to sales administration, a travelling technical sales representative, sales manager, commercial manager, business manager, and now a consultant. Thus, a wide range of different roles and disciplines.
With a background in product design, I always enjoyed visiting production facilities and seeing cutting-edge manufacturing in action. It amazed me that over 400 people were involved in producing just the engine for a Formula 1 team. The attention to detail and rigours that the aerospace industry goes to was very assuring when I started international travel.
Involvement in the oil & gas exploration sector required me to travel worldwide and gave me the opportunity to see and visit some of the world’s most iconic sites. These include the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, Beijing; the Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur; Raffles Hotel, Singapore; the Burj Khalifa, Dubai; and Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro.
Throughout my time at AGMA and given this opportunity to travel, I have been fortunate to meet and work with many incredible people, both at home in the UK and across the world, who have made my journey very special and memorable. To date….
